CarGurus photo requirements (US)

What CarGurus actually expects from listing photos — count, resolution, format, and rules — with every figure cited to its source below.

Specs change. Marketplaces update photo requirements without much notice. Treat the table below as a reference, not a live source of truth — always verify current requirements with CarGurus directly before you build a pipeline or QA process around them.

Good to know

CarGurus has no published minimum photo count, but tracks "photo completeness" as part of its dealer-ranking algorithm. The same algorithm detects blur and dark images, which hurts a listing's deal rating; CarGurus offers a "Photo Wizard" tool for background standardization.

Sources

Figures above are cited below and marked official (the marketplace's own docs/help center) or reported (a third-party guide describing the marketplace's specs). Where a figure is only reported, treat it as a well-sourced estimate rather than a guarantee.

One master set, every marketplace's spec

Rather than re-editing per platform, process each vehicle once into a clean, high-resolution master gallery, then export the size, crop, and format each marketplace needs. AutoStudio produces consistent, listing-ready images with automatic plate/face blur, so meeting CarGurus's requirements becomes an export setting rather than a reshoot. See the API, check pricing, or read the full car listing photo requirements guide covering every major marketplace.
